UConn, Jackson Lab Launch Single-Cell Genomics Center

The University of Connecticut and the Jackson Laboratory today announced an agreement to launch a new research center focused on single-cell genomics.

The $7.7 million Single-Cell Genomics Center will be located at the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine on the UConn Health campus in Farmington, Connecticut, a joint venture between the two organizations.

"Single-cell genomic technology is rapidly developing," Paul Robson, director of single-cell genomics at the Jackson Laboratory, said in a statement, adding a laboratory dedicated to research into the field will "ensure that biologists within the community have the best tools available to make an impact on their science. This Center does exactly that, and also provides a potential conduit to collaborative work between JAX and the UConn communities."

In 2011, Bar Harbor, Maine-based Jackson Laboratory and UConn teamed up to build the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine at UConn, a $1.1 billion project under the Bioscience Connecticut initiative. In 2012, UConn established an Institute for Systems Genomics to be housed at the joint laboratory.
